My name is Katie Hymel, and I am originally from Philidelphia, Pennsylvania. I am 18 years old and based out of Columbus, Ohio. I am currently studying business administration and dance at The Ohio State University. I have been dancing for over a decade and am excited to make a career out of my passion. I am looking forward to maturing my craft and combining my studies in the professional world. I am classically trained in—but not limited to—ballet, jazz, tap, hip hop, contemporary, ballroom, point, acrobatics, and improvisation. Pre-professionally, I trained at Betsy Daily School of Performing Arts in Berwyn, Pennsylvania. Outside of my studio, I have enhanced my training at summer intensives. For example, Steps on Broadway and MSA NYC Remix. In addition to my practice, I have various performance experiences. I have participated in dance competitions such as Beyond the Stars, Jump, Groove, etc. I have also had the opportunity to dance in parades such as the Philadelphia Thanksgiving and Christmas Parades. I hope to take my training and performance experiences into the world of commercial dance. I plan to be a bicoastal dancer and work both in LA and New York City. While in NYC I hope to pursue the Rockettes, Broadway, dancing for films, etc. On the other hand, I want to pursue work as a backup dancer and in music videos while in LA. In addition to performing, I love teaching. Although I only have experience as a substitute for my home studio, I look forward to expanding my involvement as an instructor. I hope to create a safe environment in the classroom, that excels my dancers in a positive way. Finally, dance is more than just movement to me. This form of art is a community and is meant to bring people together. I value dance as a way to express ourselves and how we can share those expressions with others.
